Am I the only one who chose a local flower farm over a big wholesaler for my Valentine's Day roses?

I picked the farm's $18 per stem 'Juliet' garden roses over the $5 imported ones, and my clients in Boise said it was the best bouquet they'd ever gotten because of the scent and petal count.

Wait, eighteen dollars... for a single rose?

Did you see that article about the flower market last week? It explained how bad weather in South America wrecked a lot of the rose crops this season. That shortage is hitting right before Valentine's Day, so prices are through the roof. It's not just some store being greedy, the whole supply chain got messed up. I guess it's a good year to get creative with a different gift.

Yeah, that's rough for anyone counting on roses. The_brian's shock is totally fair, it's a crazy price jump. Maybe a nice potted plant would work instead.
