Changed my mind about using floral foam for a big wedding arch last weekend
I was setting up for a 200-person wedding in Tempe and had the arch frame ready. My go-to has always been soaked Oasis foam, zip-tied in. But the bride wanted it totally foam-free, which I thought was just a trendy pain. I ended up using chicken wire and moss instead, securing everything with paddle wire. Took me an extra 90 minutes to build and hydrate, but honestly? The stems drank way better, it was way lighter to move, and cleanup was just folding wire. Felt less guilty about the waste too. Anyone switched methods for large structures and have tips for speeding up the chicken wire process?

My last big arch used four blocks of floral foam. I was sure the chicken wire method would be a huge hassle, but your post makes me reconsider the waste. Maybe I'll try the moss and wire on my next one.

Four blocks of foam sounds like you were building a floral floatation device, not an arch. The moss and wire method is a workout, but at least you're not left with a weird green brick that crumbles into a million pieces.

Wait, you used four whole blocks for one arch? That's a crazy amount of foam to throw away after one day. The moss method sounds like a pain but at least it's not all trash.
