The week I had to source peonies in a February snowstorm

A bride in my town wanted a huge peony bouquet for her Valentine's Day wedding, which was already a big ask. Then a snowstorm hit the Midwest last week, grounding all my usual freight flights. I spent three days straight calling every grower I know, finally finding a guy in Oregon who could overnight a box of 50 stems for double my normal cost. I had to explain to the bride why her flowers added $300 to her bill, and she was not happy. Has anyone else had a client ask for a totally out of season flower during impossible weather?

Oregon in a snowstorm" sounds like a real nightmare. I read a florist blog that called these "heroic sourcing" jobs, and they always cost someone.

But claire872, maybe the extra cost is just paying for the story you get to tell.

Honestly that "story you get to tell" line feels off to me. Tbh the story is usually about stress and things going wrong, not some fun adventure. The extra cost just pays for the hassle of finding stuff that should have been there.
