TIL my overwatering habit messed up a funeral order

I always heard funeral flowers need lots of water, so I soaked the spray. By the next day, the blooms were soggy and falling apart. The family called, really upset, and I had to rush a new one. Now I'm second-guessing how I care for all my arrangements. How do you know the right amount for each type? I've read so many tips, but they all conflict. I just want a clear guide that works. Anyone have experience with this?

Ever try the finger test? I just stick my finger in the soil up to the second knuckle, if it feels dry then I water. Worked for me after I drowned some lilies last year.

How about using a wooden skewer to test moisture, since it saved my orchids from overwatering?

Grandma's method works until you get a plant that hates wet feet (like a succulent). Overthinking it beats killing another plant.

Okay but is this REALLY such a big deal? Plants have been growing forever without us sticking our fingers in dirt. I get that overwatering happens, but come on, it's not rocket science. My grandma used to just water when the soil looked dry, and her plants were fine. It feels like we make things way more complicated than they need to be.
