Warning: A winter bride's peony demand split our shop on sourcing ethics

Last month, a client booked a December wedding and absolutely had to have peonies (which, as we all know, are a spring flower). I pushed for using in-season options like amaryllis or hellebores, to cut down on shipping and back local growers. But my partner argued we should import them from New Zealand, saying our job is to make visions real, no matter the cost or carbon. We actually had a tense talk in the cooler, with me holding a bunch of local greenery and her waving a catalog of flown-in blooms. It left me stuck between sticking to my green values and keeping a customer from walking away. Where do you stand on filling out-of-season orders versus promoting seasonal designs? Really curious how other shops balance this.

But where do you draw the line between one client's dream and the real-world cost to the planet?

Wait, are we really still acting like one person's dream house is worth clear-cutting a forest? I saw a project last year that took out like 200 old-growth trees for a driveway... just to get a better view. That's not a dream, that's a problem.

What happens when making one vision real messes with the bigger picture for everyone? Seems like that cooler chat is just the start.

Who decides whose vision gets to break stuff?
