I bought 'low sugar' granola for my kid's lunch, but comparing labels took me 45 minutes at the store.

The front of the bag had a big 'low sugar' banner. The nutrition panel showed 8 grams per serving, which seemed okay. But then I checked the ingredients and the second one was brown rice syrup. It's just another name for sugar. I had to pull out my phone and look up three other brands to find one that actually used less sweetener. Has anyone else gotten stuck reading the fine print like this? What labels make you suspicious?

My personal record is twenty minutes comparing two jars of pasta sauce. One said "no added sugar" right on the front. The ingredient list had "concentrated grape juice" as the third thing. It's just sugar syrup. I felt like I needed a detective's badge and a magnifying glass by the end of it.

Feel like I need a food science degree after reading @rowanhernandez's pasta sauce story.

Wait they put brown rice syrup in granola? That's just sneaky.
