My 'healthy' granola had more sugar than a candy bar

I scanned the label on my new 'low fat' granola and the sugar count was 22 grams per serving, which is basically a Snickers bar lol. I bought it because the front said 'heart healthy' and 'natural energy' in big letters. Has anyone else found a breakfast cereal that isn't secretly dessert?

Tell me about it. I once bought a "superfood" muesli that turned my morning yogurt into what felt like a bowl of cookie dough. The front of the box is all sunshine and oats, but you flip it over and it's just a list of sugar types. I felt so tricked. Now I just make my own mix from plain rolled oats, nuts, and a handful of dried fruit. It takes five minutes and I actually know what's in it. The marketing on these boxes should come with its own warning label.

My husband and I noticed this whole pattern goes way beyond cereal. It's the same with "organic" frozen meals that have as much sodium as a salt lick, or "eco-friendly" cleaning products that are mostly just fragrance and water. You really have to read everything like a legal document now.

Remember that "all-natural" trail mix that was basically just candy?

Ugh, it's the worst right? I grabbed a "protein" granola last week that was basically just chocolate chips and syrup glued together. The box had a picture of a mountain and the word "fuel" all over it. My spoon stood straight up in the bowl, it was so sticky. Feels like you need a detective license to shop for cereal anymore.
