My kid's 'fruit snacks' are basically just candy with a picture of a strawberry on the box
Last month I grabbed a box of those gummy snacks from the store because the front said 'made with real fruit juice' and had a big 'vitamin C' badge. I checked the back label while he was eating them and the first ingredient was corn syrup, then sugar, then juice concentrate. The 'vitamin C' was just added ascorbic acid, same as in a cheap supplement. It had 12 grams of sugar per tiny pouch. Has anyone found a kids' snack that isn't secretly a dessert?

Remember when my mom used to cut up actual apples and call it a snack? Felt like a punishment back then, but now I get it. I tried those dried mango strips last week, thinking they were just fruit, but the ingredient list had added sugar too. It's all just marketing.

Actually, the ascorbic acid is the vitamin C, that part is correct. It's just a cheap way to add it back in after processing strips it out. The real issue is calling juice concentrate a health ingredient when it's just another sugar.
