My mom called me out on my 'whole grain' bread choice
I was feeling good about my grocery run last week, grabbing my usual loaf with 'Made with Whole Grains' in big letters on the front. When my mom visited, she picked it up, flipped it over, and read the ingredients. She pointed at the list and said, 'Look, enriched wheat flour is the first thing. That's just white flour. The whole grains are way down there.' I checked and she was right. The first three items were refined flours. I had no idea that phrase didn't mean it was mostly whole grain. Now I only buy bread if 'whole wheat flour' is the first ingredient, not just somewhere on the list. It feels like such a simple trick, but it totally changed how I shop. Has anyone else had a family member point out a label lie you totally missed?

And the sugar thing is real, logan - I've seen "healthy" breads with more sugar than some cookies. It's like they throw in a few oat flakes and call it health food, but the base is still basically the same spongy stuff.

Honestly, I just buy whatever bread tastes good.

Totally get that, taste is king. But man, some of that fluffy white bread is basically cake. Started checking labels and was shocked. Now I just grab the sourdough or whole wheat from the bakery section, way less junk and still tastes great.
