My neighbor's comment about 'light' olive oil made me check my pantry

We were talking about cooking and he said, 'Light just means flavor, not fat, they're banking on you not knowing that.' I pulled out my bottle and sure enough, the calories per serving were identical to the regular stuff. How many other 'light' labels are just playing on assumptions?

Hang on, do the "lite" versions actually have to follow different rules then @aaron_adams? Seems like they'd all just be taking advantage of people not reading the fine print... Makes me wonder how many other food labels are counting on us to just glance at the front.

That "light" label trick is EVERYWHERE with stuff like peanut butter and mayo too.

It's actually "lite" for those, not "light". The rules are different for spelling.
