A friend called my crypto strategy 'reckless' and it made me think

He pointed out I was putting 40% of my monthly savings into a single altcoin based on forum hype, which is basically gambling. I shifted to a 5% max rule for any speculative play and put the rest into a boring index fund. How do you guys balance hype-driven bets with your core financial plan?

My own crypto strategy once involved buying a token because I liked the name. It did not go well. The 5% rule is smart, it keeps the fun money from wrecking the real plan. What's the most random reason you've ever bought into something?

That "liked the name" thing is a whole mood. I once bought a stock because the CEO had a cool beard in the company photo. It feels like the same impulse behind buying the weird snack at the gas station just for the packaging.

My cousin bought a coin because its mascot was a cartoon frog, so you're ahead of the curve.
