Can we talk about how a decentralized social app handled a takedown notice last month?

A platform called 'Mastodon' refused a request to remove a financial blogger, citing its server rules. Has anyone else seen a case where a platform's structure actually protected speech?

Yeah, that Mastodon case is a perfect example. Each server has its own mods and rules, so a takedown notice sent to the wrong server just gets ignored. @sage675, that's the trade-off. It stops blanket censorship, but it means harmful stuff can stick around on servers with lax rules. You have to pick your server carefully.

That's exactly what I worry about too, ryanc57. It feels like the whole system just pushes the problem to smaller, less careful places.

Sounds like a good way to host harmful content.

What kind of harmful content are you worried about?
