Can we talk about how a simple wallet switch saved my crypto from getting locked?

I was using a popular exchange wallet for my Bitcoin for about 6 months, thinking it was fine. Then I tried moving a small amount, $50 worth, to support a creator and the transaction got flagged and held for 'review'. I switched to a non-custodial wallet I control, and the next identical transaction went through in under 10 minutes. The difference was night and day. Has anyone else had a platform freeze funds for something that seemed totally normal?

I get what you're saying but honestly, is this really that big of a deal? Like yeah, it's annoying that a transaction got held up, but $50 is pocket change. The exchange probably flagged it because it looked weird to their system, not because they're out to get you. I've had transfers sit for a few hours before and it just means maybe the person sending it has to wait an extra day. It's not like your whole account got frozen or you lost money permanently. Are we sure this isn't just normal security stuff that happens everywhere?

Wait, did they ever tell you what the review actually found? That's the scary part, you never know what random rule you broke (or if they even checked at all).

What did they say during the review, like what was their reason for holding it?

Honestly, did they give any actual details or just a vague policy thing? Tbh it feels like half the time these reviews are just checking boxes without a real reason.
