My crypto wallet's backup phrase got corrupted on a flash drive last week

I was moving my seed phrase to a new computer and the file just wouldn't open anymore (total panic moment). Had to use a paper backup I thankfully made six months ago. Has anyone else had a digital backup fail like that?

Flash drives are basically modern day floppy disks, just waiting to corrupt your most important files. I keep my phrase on paper too, but I also have it etched into a metal plate because I don't trust any digital copy. That sinking feeling when a file just dies is the worst.

Oh, you're so right. It's like we've convinced ourselves that digital is permanent, but it's all just as fragile as anything else. I've noticed this pattern with people and their photos too - everyone's got thousands of them on their phone but nobody prints them out anymore. Then their phone dies or they lose it, and all those memories are just gone forever. It's the same with the cloud, you think it's safe up there but it's just somebody else's hard drive waiting to fail. There's something about having a physical copy that just feels more honest, even if it can get scratched or bent.

Remember when people used to burn their favorite songs onto CDs? My buddy made this perfect mix for a road trip, and halfway through the desert, the CD just gave up. Started making that awful grinding noise. That's the same feeling as a dead flash drive, just with less dust. At least with a metal plate, you can't scratch it by accident while digging for snacks.
