Question about moving money to a private wallet
I was at a meetup in Austin last month and a guy showed me how he moved his crypto off a big exchange. He sent a small test amount first, which cost about $3 in fees, then moved the rest. I'd been nervous about messing up the address, but that simple step made it feel safe. How do you all handle moving funds without trusting a third party?

Test amounts? That's like wearing a helmet to check your mail. I just close my eyes and hit send, makes it more exciting.

Honestly, the whole test amount thing seems like overkill for most moves. Like, check the address twice, sure, but paying extra fees just to be super sure? That adds up. I'm kinda with @michael_green44 on the vibe, even if I don't close my eyes. It's just moving money, not defusing a bomb. If you're that worried about a typo, maybe copy-paste the address and look at the first and last few characters. Sending a test every single time is for people with serious trust issues, or maybe moving life savings. For normal amounts, it's not that deep.

Read something the other day about a guy who lost like $10,000 because he copied a malware address from his clipboard instead of the real one. That kind of thing sticks with you. But for normal everyday transfers, a test amount feels like paying for insurance on a sandwich. The fees add up fast if you are doing this weekly, and it just makes you paranoid over nothing. For big bills or paying a contractor, sure, do a test. For splitting dinner with friends, copy the text, double check it once, and send it. Overthinking it is its own kind of mistake.
