Update: The old community board at our library got funding cut for controversial topics
Remember when you could post anything there without worrying about who paid for the space. Now they say the budget only allows for approved notices after some complaints hit their donations. Does your town still have a spot where speech isn't tied to money?

But those totally free boards often became a mess of scams and hate speech real fast. Maybe some basic filters aren't the worst thing.

What worries me is who sets those filters and what they consider 'basic'. Once you give someone the power to remove content, it's easy for them to slide into censoring stuff they just disagree with. I've seen forums where mild criticism gets caught in the net because a mod didn't like the tone. The line between stopping hate speech and shutting down debate gets really blurry fast. Maybe we need clearer rules on what filters can target, not just having them.
