Watched a crypto project's subreddit go from wild west to ghost town in 6 months

Honestly, it was a project focused on private transactions. The sub had maybe 5k active users posting memes, code debates, and price talk. Then the main devs started deleting any post that mentioned a competing coin or criticized their roadmap. Tbh, after that, engagement dropped hard. Now it's just announcements and maybe 2 comments. Did heavy moderation kill the discussion, or was it needed to stay focused? What's your take?

I saw a similar thing happen with a gaming token's Discord. The mods started banning people for talking about any other game, even if it was just a side comment. The server went from a thousand daily messages to maybe fifty. That kind of control chokes out the real talk. People show up for the community, not just the announcements. When you turn into a propaganda channel, you're just preaching to an empty room.

Banning for a side comment, @maxf33? That's just insane.

That Discord drop from a thousand to fifty messages says it all. Feels like mods forget why people stick around.
