Heard a kid at the Fullerton library say something that stuck with me
Was sitting near the kids section last Tuesday waiting for my daughter. This boy, maybe 10 years old, told his mom he didn't want to read a book unless it had a map inside. Said maps make the story real because you can see where the characters actually go. It got me thinking about how we lose that sense of place as we get older. Has anyone else noticed their kids asking for things like maps or diagrams in their books?

Maps are one of those things that really do pull you into a story. That kid has a good point. I remember reading The Hobbit as a kid and spending way too long looking at the map trying to figure out which mountain they were climbing. It's a shame most books for adults don't bother with them anymore.

You're totally right, @valc91. I did the exact same thing with The Hobbit map as a kid, tracing the paths with my finger like I was actually walking with the dwarves. It's crazy how much a simple map adds to the whole experience, especially when you're trying to picture the journey in your head. Adult books really miss out on that extra layer, it's a shame because it makes the world feel more real and lived in.

Wait, are you telling me there are adults out there who don't want a map with their book? I feel like I've missed out on half the fun of reading for years now. Guess I'll just have to start drawing my own on napkins.
