I just hit 50 hours on a single chair and I'm not mad about it

Everyone talks about speed, but this old ladderback took me a full week to strip, repair a split seat, and do a proper shellac finish. The time surprised me because I usually rush. But seeing the grain pop and the joints tight, it felt right. Does anyone else find that slowing down on a piece makes the final result way better?

My grandpa's workbench has a vise he fitted 40 years ago. He spent a whole weekend filing the jaws by hand so they'd close without a gap. That vise still works perfectly. Rushing just means you'll be fixing your own work later, or worse, someone else will have to.

A full week" is the new speed run. That chair will outlive us all.

That chair's already falling apart, trust me.
