I used to avoid wax finishes until a client's chair changed my mind.

I always skipped wax because I thought it was too much upkeep. But after using it on a worn-out chair, I saw how it brings out the wood's depth. What do you think about wax for daily use furniture?

Wow, what type of wax holds up best for a kitchen table?

So @karencampbell, are you trying to protect an old finish that's already there, or is the wood totally bare right now? That changes the game a LOT. Like, a paste wax over old varnish is fine, but if it's raw wood you might need something tougher for all the spills and heat. My aunt used just wax on a bare wood table and every coffee cup left a white ring.

Yeah, those white rings are the worst... been there. Hope @karencampbell gets a clear answer on what she's working with first.

Wait, you thought wax was high upkeep? That's wild to me. I've been using paste wax on my kitchen table for years and just give it a quick buff every few months. Watching that beat-up chair come back to life must have been crazy.
