Rant: My neighbor said he's 'training his kids for the gig economy' by not giving them an allowance, just paying them for chores via an app.

lol that's wild, my cousin does the same thing with her kids. they have to scan a QR code to get paid for taking out the trash.

Seriously? It's just chores.

My dad just gave me a weekly allowance, no strings attached. But after reading @ray617's comment, I looked it up. Some experts say tying money directly to tasks teaches real world cause and effect, like getting paid for a completed job. It's less about the money and more about linking work to reward. That actually makes a lot of sense to me now.

Grew up with a similar system and it Honestly worked great. My parents gave me a base allowance for just being part of the family, then extra money for bigger tasks like mowing the lawn or washing the car. It taught me that some things you do because you're part of a team, and other things you do because you want to earn something extra. I think the key is finding that balance so it doesn't feel like you're nickel and diming every little thing. Definitely helped me understand money better when I started working my first real job.
