The 2030 census showed my city lost 15% of its people. Everyone says that's bad, but I see it differently.

All the news and local leaders are calling it a crisis, talking about lost tax money and empty storefronts. I looked at the data, and the drop was almost all from people under 30 moving out. They left for remote jobs and cheaper places. Now, housing prices here are finally starting to level off for the first time in twenty years. For young families trying to buy a first home, this slowdown might be the only chance they get. Does anyone else think we're too quick to call population loss a failure?

That 15% drop is a huge number. But cheaper housing is a real win for the people who get to stay. Maybe we need to measure success by more than just growth.

Ever seen a neighborhood saved by a price drop, @robertcarr?

Right? Growth isn't everything. If prices fall and folks can keep their homes, that's a real victory.
