Just realized that turning off the 'auto-brightness' feature on my new e-reader fixed the weird text ghosting I was seeing.
After dealing with faint leftover images on the screen for a week, I found a forum post suggesting this specific setting was the culprit, which made me wonder if anyone else has had a similar issue with their tablet or e-reader display?

My old Kindle Paperwhite had the same ghosting problem. The auto setting made the screen refresh at weird times. I wonder if it's a common software bug with e-ink displays.

So the auto setting is the real problem then. Makes sense why turning it off fixed it. Wonder if Amazon ever patched that bug in newer models.
