Vent: My phone's screen just gave out while I was trying to film a sunset

It happened two nights ago at the park near my place. I pulled out my phone to get a video, and the screen just went black with these weird green lines. I tried holding the power button for like 30 seconds, but nothing. Ended up having to borrow my friend's phone to finish the night. Has anyone had a screen die like that and managed to fix it, or is it just toast?

My old Galaxy S7 did the exact same thing at a concert. One minute I was recording the encore, the next it was a black screen with purple static. A repair shop quoted me more than the phone was worth, so it became a very expensive paperweight. That sinking feeling is the worst, especially when you're trying to capture a moment.

I just put mine in the freezer for 10 minutes and it came back on.

Whoa seriously? That actually sounds kind of genius, I've never heard of that trick! I had a similar thing happen with my old LG and the screen went haywire. I tried the freezer thing once on a different phone that kept overheating, and it actually worked for a bit. Just be super careful to wrap it in a bag so no moisture gets inside, condensation is a real killer for electronics. Glad it worked out for you, that purple static screen is seriously terrifying to see!

Yeah, saw a tech article saying that purple static is often a loose display cable or a failing GPU. Makes sense that a repair quote would be high for an older model, since they'd rather sell you a new phone. Total bummer when a memory gets lost like that.
