I finally wrestled with whether to report my buddy's unsafe shed wiring.

Yeah, that part about it being the "hard right thing" is so true. I had to talk to my neighbor about his sketchy outdoor outlet last year. I just went over with a couple of beers and said, "Hey man, I was grabbing my hose and noticed that cord looked fried, it really freaked me out." Framing it like I was worried for him, not judging him, made all the difference. He actually thanked me later because he had no idea.

Caught a news bit about a shed burning down from dodgy wiring. The owner was more upset about losing his tools than the close call.

Honestly some guys bond with their tools more than their own safety, it's wild.

Wait, did you really think about not telling someone? I mean, I've been in that spot, fretting over friendship, but bad wiring is serious business. My cousin had a close call with his garage wires last summer, and it woke me up to the risks. You have to look past the awkward talk and see the real danger. If a fire starts, your friend's shed isn't the only thing at stake, it's the whole neighborhood. So reporting it isn't about being a bad pal, it's about doing the hard right thing.
