TIL garage epoxy kits are rated for weight differently than I thought

After my car tire lifted a 6 inch square of my floor paint last weekend, I called the manufacturer and found out their 'heavy duty' rating was tested with a 500 pound stationary weight, not a 3,000 pound car rolling over it, so has anyone else had their coating fail from actual driving?

Oh, I learned that lesson the hard way too. I ended up going with a commercial grade 2-part epoxy from a local paint store, and I had to grind the concrete really well first before applying it. So far it's held up fine under my SUV, but I also let it cure for a full week before driving on it.

You're absolutely right, and I had the same rude awakening as you and @nancyg14. I used a top-tier kit from the hardware store, let it cure the full 72 hours like the label said, and my sedan still peeled a chunk up on the first turn. It turns out the "heavy duty" rating really is just for parked loads, not the shear force of a tire twisting on the surface.

wait, did you let it cure for a full week? that seems like overkill. most of these kits say you can drive on them in 24 hours, and honestly that's probably why people have problems. they don't follow the directions right. i've got a buddy who did his whole garage with a cheap home depot kit, drove his truck on it the next day, and it's been fine for like three years now. the concrete prep matters way more than the fancy paint, i think people blame the epoxy when they just didn't clean or etch the floor good enough.
