My gas stove lit up the smoke detector at 6am...

I was making pancakes last Tuesday and the burner flared up so high it singed my sleeve... turned out the drip pan was caked with grease from months ago. Has anyone else had their gas stove throw a big flame like that and just ignored it?

Oh come on, you really think a little singed sleeve is worth getting upset over? A bigger flame actually means the heat is more even for stuff like pancakes, and @emeryj66 hit it - life just throws small fires at us to test our patience. Long as the pancakes get eaten and the smoke clears before work, you're basically winning at breakfast.

Oh yeah, nothing says "good morning" quite like a 4-foot fireball trying to cook breakfast. Your stove is basically just reminding you that it has feelings too, and those feelings are "please clean me." I'm pretty sure my gas range has tried to take my eyebrows off at least three times this year alone, but I just pretend it's a feature not a bug. The real question is did your pancakes survive the chaos, or did they become a sacrifice to the grease gods? Honestly, as long as the smoke alarm stops screaming by the time I pour my coffee, I call it a win.

Pretty sure this is just life trying to set our expectations low so we appreciate the small wins.
