Shoutout to my neighbor Carol for insisting on a CO detector near my gas stove

She kept bugging me about it for like 6 months after I bragged about my new gas range. I thought she was just paranoid since my kitchen has a window I crack open when I cook. Last week I finally caved and stuck a plug-in detector on the counter about 4 feet from the stove. It went off twice during a 30 minute stir-fry session at medium heat. Now I'm wondering how many times I've been breathing in elevated CO levels without knowing. Has anyone else had a detector go off with normal cooking or is my burner just jacked up?

That "window cracked open" thing got me. My buddy Tom said the same thing. He lives in an old building with drafty windows. Installed a detector too. Thing went off making pancakes. Pancakes! He was actually pissed. Said he'd been cooking that way for years. His burner was fine, it was just a low flow from the regulator. Had to get the gas company out. They replaced the whole stove connection for free. He still leaves the window open though. Old habits.

Old habits die hard, but a regulator problem is a different thing than just airing out the place. If it was truly a low flow issue, the window isn't gonna help much if the gas is building up from a leak.
