Our kitchen faucet cartridge gave out on a Sunday evening, of course.

The plumber charged $200 for the emergency call, which hurt more than the leak. Anyone have a good brand for a replacement cartridge that doesn't fail after a year?

Sunday evening leaks are the worst kind of bad luck. That emergency call fee really stings, doesn't it? jana_black has a point about it being smarter to buy a better part now. I've had good luck with Moen cartridges holding up for a few years at least. You just want something that lasts longer than a cheap one.

Man, that's rough. Sunday evening leaks always seem to hit at the worst possible time and that fee just rubs salt in the wound. Hope you get something that actually holds up this time.

Honestly, that $200 seems pretty fair for a Sunday night house call... plumbers have families and deserve time off too. Those emergency fees aren't just for the part, they're for the convenience of not having a flooded kitchen. Maybe the real issue is expecting a cheap cartridge to last forever, they're all basically plastic and rubber wearing out.

Exactly, that fee pays for their weekend time and skill. Investing in a better cartridge now is just cheaper than another emergency call later.
