Question about those at home gene test kits
I spent $300 on one of those fancy DNA health kits last year, thinking it would give me a clear picture. The results said I had a higher risk for a certain heart condition. I panicked, saw a real doctor, and after a bunch of expensive tests, they told me the kit was basically wrong. The genetic counselor said these direct to consumer tests can be misleading because they only look at a few markers, not the whole story. It was a huge waste of money and gave me months of stress for nothing. It really makes you think about who should be selling this info and how it's explained. Has anyone else had a scare from one of these kits that turned out to be nothing?

Seriously, what about the data resale?

Sounds like you bought a very expensive fortune cookie. Those kits are basically just a party trick that can ruin your whole year. They should come with a warning label and a coupon for therapy. It's scary how they can sell that kind of worry in a pretty box.

@nancyjones nailed it with the fortune cookie thing. Did the company ever explain why their limited test could cause that kind of false alarm?
