A close call with flying glass changed my view on gear

I always skipped safety glasses because they get steamy and feel annoying. Last week, I was blowing a vase and a piece popped right at my eye. The glasses blocked it, and I saw how bad it could have been. Now I wear them without fail, even for quick jobs. It's a tiny thing that stops huge trouble. I picked up some anti-fog ones so they're less of a pain. Seriously, save your eyesight, it's worth it lol.

That bit about 'a tiny thing that stops huge trouble' is so true. I read this article last year about how most eye injuries at work happen during quick tasks. It said a guy was just drilling a small hole and a metal shaving flew into his eye. He wasn't wearing glasses because it was a quick job. Your vase story is just like that. Anti-fog glasses are a good fix for the steam issue.

@henrydixon, that story hits home. My cousin works construction and he always says 'safety first, even for five seconds'. Saved his eyes more than once.

How many stories like that do we need to hear?

Oh sure, because your eyeball knows the difference between a 'quick job' and a 'long job'. It'll politely wait for you to get the proper gear if the task is scheduled for over ten minutes. My favorite is when people say 'I was just...' like the piece of metal or glass cares about your plans. Yeah, I was just gonna keep my vision, thanks.
