Noticing fewer blowers hand-mixing their own colors these days.

Does that take away from the art, or is it just progress?

Look, the art is what ends up on the glass, not how you got there.

Learned the hard way when my pre-mix ran out mid-job. Now I always know how to make my own.

Wait, isn't using whatever gets the job done part of the craft too? Does the paint really care how it got mixed?

Hold on, that's missing the point. The paint doesn't care, but your skill does. Using any shortcut without understanding why it works just makes you dependent on tricks. You never actually learn how to fix things when the shortcut fails. The craft is knowing the proper method so you can choose to break the rules on purpose, not by accident. It's like following a recipe perfectly before you start changing ingredients.
