I thought detailed cuts were a waste of time until a client's reaction proved me wrong.
I used to avoid intricate styles because they took too long. But after seeing how happy a client was with a layered bob I spent extra time on, I realized quality over speed matters. Now I gladly book longer slots for complex cuts.

Tiled a backsplash last month that had crazy detailed patterns. Almost said no because it would take triple the time of a simple subway job. Client insisted, so I did it right. Their reaction when they saw it was like that layered bob moment you described. @jennifer_dixon I get the chain salon mindset, really do. But sometimes the slow, detailed work is what builds your name for the better jobs.

Ever had a client who paid extra for that kind of detail work?

My first job was at a chain salon where we had 15-minute slots for every cut. Tbh, I get that some clients love fancy styles, but is it really worth doubling the time for everyone? Most people just want a trim and to get out fast, they don't need all those layers. And let's be real, not every stylist can do those detailed cuts well, so it might just look messy. Sure, one client was happy, but what about the ten others who were fine with a basic cut? I stick with quick services because it keeps my book full and my clients coming back.

One good experience doesn't change the fact that most clients prefer a quick, reliable trim. Spending too much time on fancy cuts can frustrate people waiting or raise prices. At the end of the day, keeping things simple and fast works for more stylists and customers.
