I used to think extended warranties were always a scam, but my laptop died 13 months in

Bought a $900 laptop last year and laughed at the $79 extended warranty offer at checkout. Then the motherboard fried at month 13 and the repair cost me $350. Would you pay for extended warranties on electronics under $500 or just take the risk every time?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. Same thing happened to me with a $700 tablet. I was like "nah, $60 extra? what a ripoff" and then the screen started glitching at 14 months. Had to pay $250 to get it fixed and it was barely worth it at that point. For me, I've started buying the extended warranty on anything over $400 now because one bad luck moment basically wipes out any savings. Under $500 I still gamble though cause the repair usually isn't that much more than the warranty cost. But honestly it's such a crap shoot either way.

Bought a toaster once. Thought skipping the $5 warranty was smart money. Three months later it caught fire.
