My endo told me my testosterone gel routine was completely wrong
I was putting it on my shoulders right after a shower and he said the steam and moisture was ruining absorption. He told me to wait at least an hour and apply to my inner thighs instead. Has anyone else had a doctor totally change how they apply their meds?
Hmm, I'm not sure I'd rush to agree with your endo here. I've been on gel for about 12 years and my doctor actually said the opposite - that putting it on shoulders after a shower is fine because the skin is clean and the pores are open a bit. He said the main thing is to let your skin dry completely first, maybe 5-10 minutes, not a whole hour. I'd be a little worried about the inner thigh thing too, since that area rubs together more and could affect how much actually absorbs. Maybe get a second opinion before you change everything up.
...so at this point we're basically just picking which patch of skin we trust more, the hairy shoulder or the chafing thigh. I'm on year 8 of gel and my doc just said "put it wherever you can reach without looking like a weirdo." I guess the real question is whether I want my T to absorb through hair follicles or through friction burns. Either way, I'm pretty sure we're all just guessing at this point and hoping for the best.
