PSA: My neighbor's ancient push mower beat my $500 self-propelled one in a race to finish our lawns last Saturday
After betting him a six-pack that my fancy new gas mower would crush his rusty relic, he finished his yard in 22 minutes flat while I spent 45 minutes untangling wet grass from the self-propel drive belt, has anyone else been humbled by old-school lawn gear?

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen with an old Craftsman, called it a humbling day.

22 minutes is wild but I gotta ask - what kind of grass were you cutting? Because my neighbor has that thick St. Augustine stuff that clumps up like wet carpet, and my self-propelled mower chokes on it too. I swear the old reel mowers just slice through it like butter cause they don't have all those plastic parts and belts to clog up. Did you check if your mower's blade was sharp or if it needed a good cleaning? Sometimes the simplest fix makes all the difference.

Yeah the blade thing is huge. Dull blades just rip the grass instead of cutting it clean, makes everything bog down way worse.
