The day my neighbor’s kid taught me about movie streaming

I was fixing my fence last Saturday and overheard my neighbor’s 10-year-old tell his friend that Netflix is for old people. He said they only use TikTok for movies now and watch clips instead of full films. I grew up renting VHS tapes from Blockbuster and never thought I’d be the outdated one. It made me realize the whole way we watch stuff has flipped in like 15 years. Do you guys think we’ll even have full length movies in another decade? I’m genuinely curious if anyone else feels this way.

Netflix is for old people" - oh my GOD, that hit me right in the gut. I'm only 32 but I literally felt my bones creak reading that. I still have my old Blockbuster card in a drawer (don't ask why, I'm not ready to let go). But clips instead of full movies? That's wild to me. How do you even get invested in a story if you're just watching 60 second chunks on TikTok? I mean, I use it too (mostly for recipes and dog videos, to be fair) but the idea that a kid thinks that's the same as watching a whole movie just makes my brain hurt.

Feel you on the Blockbuster card, man. I'm 37 and I still have my favorite DVD from Hollywood Video sitting on my shelf like a trophy. It's the extended edition of Kingdom of Heaven, don't judge me. But yeah, the whole TikTok movie thing is just bizarre to me. I tried watching a movie recap on there once and I felt like I was having a stroke, it's just explosions and dramatic music with no context.

Kingdom of Heaven extended is a masterpiece. And @the_fiona's right, maybe kids just like quick hits better.
