That critique from a retired pilot about my night footage made me rethink everything

I posted a video of a weird glowing orb hovering over Lake Lanier around 2am back in July, and a guy who said he flew 747s for 30 years commented that my camera focus was hunting too much, making it look fake. He said real pilots look for steady light patterns and relative movement against stars, not just bright blobs. So I changed my recording setup to manual focus at infinity and started tracking objects against the tree line instead of just zooming in. Has anyone else gotten a technical critique that actually improved their sky watching?

Real pilots look for steady light patterns" yeah well my camera was looking for its lost keys apparently. I gave up trying to manual focus and just tape a flashlight to my phone now, way easier.

Funny how one small piece of advice can change everything about how you see something. It's like when someone told me to stop trying to read the news headlines and actually look at the sky at night for a minute. Most of us get so caught up in the "how" that we forget the "what" even matters. Real improvement comes from stepping back and letting the thing itself be the thing, not fighting it with a bunch of gadgets.
