The trick that finally made my night sky pics not terrible
I've been trying to get a decent photo of weird lights for like 4 years now. Every time I saw something weird up there, my phone pics looked like blurry garbage. Last month I finally tried one of those cheap phone lens clamps that let you hold it steady against a car window or fence post. It made a huge difference, I could actually get a clear shot of this orange glowing orb that floated over my neighbor's barn for about 20 seconds. Anyone else got a simple gear trick that helped your sightings look less like a potato?

Honestly I went through the same struggle for years until I picked up an old Sony A6000 from a pawn shop for cheap. The key was learning to shoot in full manual mode with the ISO locked at 800 and the shutter speed around 15 seconds for those weird lights. Tbh I kept getting blurry shots because my hands shake too much, so I started using a little beanbag from a craft store to rest the camera on my car hood. That little trick turned my usual smudge shots into actual clear pictures of a green flickering thing I saw near the power lines last fall. Ngl the beanbag cost me like 8 bucks and it's been worth more than any expensive tripod I've tried.

Used a bag of frozen peas once for the same thing, worked great till they thawed.

Oh come on, it's just frozen vegetables for a sprained ankle, not a mission to Mars. You're acting like a bag of peas disintegrating is some kind of equipment failure. They thaw, you toss 'em and grab a new bag from the freezer. It's like a three dollar fix. Unless you're out here trying to ice a torn ACL with a single bag of peas you bought three years ago, I don't see the drama. Just buy the cheap store brand, use 'em till they get soft, and get on with your life. It's not that deep.
