Figured out a trick for my sagging closet rod that actually held up

My closet rod was sagging bad after 2 years with all my heavy coats on it. I tried those cheap bracket supports from the hardware store and they bent within a week. Then I grabbed a 2x4 scrap from my garage, cut it to length, and wedged it under the rod in the middle as a vertical support. Been holding solid for 3 months now with zero droop. Anyone else find weird fixes like this for basic home problems?

Three months is good but try 18 months with a solid oak rod and a 2x6 support. I used a 14 inch piece from a pallet (you know, the thick ones) and shimmed it with a folded business card for level. Still going strong through two humid summers in Georgia. That sagging rod drove me nuts until I just brute forced it with wood. Sometimes the cheap fix is just a bigger block of lumber.

My dad did something similar with a broomstick in his garage, painted it white so it looked intentional and everything. @daniel_gonzalez that Georgia humidity point hits home for me too, my buddy down in Atlanta has his trim swelling up every spring like clockwork. Funny how we all end up with some random piece of lumber being the real hero of the house.

Respect that fix big time dude. @daniel_gonzalez you're right about Georgia humidity being a whole different beast - I'm up north so my wood stays pretty dry but I've seen what that moisture does to stuff. Honestly a pallet 2x6 is way smarter than what I did since it's already used to being abused. I'm gonna swap my support out for something thicker this weekend before winter coats come out and wreck my setup. Ngl I love seeing how everyone has their own janky solution for the same exact problem.
