Had a landlord try to charge me for a new roof after I moved out last month in Portland
I rented a place for 3 years and when I moved out of that old house on SE Belmont, the landlord sent me a bill for $4,000 claiming I caused roof damage from using a space heater. Turns out Oregon law says normal wear and tear isn't on the tenant, and I had photos showing the roof was already cracked when I moved in. Has anyone else fought a bogus security deposit deduction and won without going to small claims court?
@murray.cora Right? It's like every repair turns into a whole production now. I swear it's not just roofs either. Yesterday my neighbor got quoted three hundred bucks to fix a leaky faucet. Three hundred dollars for a little rubber washer! It's like everyone's trying to cash in on "emergency" pricing. You gotta wonder if they think we're all made of money or just desperate.
