Is it just me or do tenant rights posters never actually help anyone?

I was at the county courthouse in Phoenix last week waiting for a friend's eviction hearing and noticed the big tenant rights poster on the wall. It's got all this fine print about security deposit timelines and habitability laws but nobody reads it because it's written like a legal document. My buddy got evicted anyway because he didn't know he had to respond in writing within 5 days. Has anyone here actually used one of those posters to win a case?

That 5 day thing got my cousin too. I read somewhere that most of those posters are just copies of state law but without plain language summaries, so normal people miss the deadlines completely. It's like they're designed for lawyers not for the folks actually getting evicted.

Yeah man, totally agree. My neighbor in the apartment complex I used to live at in Mesa got hit with a 3 day notice to pay or quit and had no clue what that even meant. The poster on the bulletin board in the laundry room was full of tiny font and legalese, so he just ignored it. Ended up with an eviction on his record because he thought it was just a scare tactic from the landlord. The posters are useless unless you already know the law or have a lawyer friend to translate. They should just put the deadlines in big bold numbers and a short sentence about what to do next.
