My neighbor's eviction notice turned out to be fake - guy down the street printed it off his computer
Talked to my landlord this morning about a different matter and mentioned it, turns out that notice had no legal standing and the guy who posted it has done this to 3 other tenants in the complex. Anyone else run into fake legal documents posted by random neighbors?

Three other tenants... that's messed up but honestly not surprising. These scams are getting way too creative. The guy down the street must have studied the formatting of real eviction notices or just copied one he found online. Did your landlord say if any of those other tenants actually moved out or paid him money because of it? I'm wondering how long he's been doing this and if there's a pattern like he targets new tenants or people who seem like they don't know their rights. Because if he's done it three times before that means he's had practice getting away with it.

Friend of mine had something similar happen. He got a notice that looked super official but had a weird email address for payments. Lucky for him he called the actual property management number instead of the one on the paper. Dude had already convinced like two other people to send him "late fees" before anyone caught on.

Oh gosh, @aaron_perry hits the nail on the head. That guy's had way too many tries at this. If your landlord says three others fell for it, that means he's gotten real good at copying official forms and probably pick people who just moved in and don't know the ropes yet. I'd bet he avoids long-time tenants who'd catch the fake email address or wrong phone number right away.
