Paid $300 for a boilerplate will template online and then found out my state requires two witnesses for it to be valid.
Now I'm out the money and still don't have a legal will because I didn't read the fine print about witness requirements, has anyone else gotten burned by those cheap legal document sites?

Honestly, I read somewhere that a lot of those cheap sites don't even tell you about state-specific rules like witness requirements. It's basically a scam unless you know exactly what you're doing and live in a super simple state. Tbh, you probably would've been better off just printing a free template from your state's court website.

Nah, those cheap sites wouldn't exist if they didn't help half the people who use them.

You said "better off just printing a free template" and honestly that's what I ended up doing after a mess with one of those cheap sites. I tried LegalZoom for my simple name change and they wanted extra money for witness affidavits that my county didn't even require. I ended up finding a blank form on my state's court portal, filled it out in 20 minutes, and the clerk even checked it for me before I filed. Saved like 60 bucks and way less hassle.
