Appreciation post: The guy at the hardware store who told me I was using painter's tape wrong

I was at Ace Hardware on Elm Street last week picking up supplies for a bedroom paint job. The clerk named Dave noticed I was buying the blue tape and asked if I was doing trim work, then he pointed out I've been leaving it on way too long - I usually let it sit for days between coats. He said after 12 hours it starts to peel unevenly and you get jagged lines. Has anyone else been doing this goof the whole time?

Sucks to find out you've been doing it wrong all along.

Nah, being wrong is how you actually learn. I spent years cutting veggies a certain way until someone showed me a better grip on the knife. Now I'm faster and don't cut myself. Real progress comes from screwing up for a while.

Ha, well I guess I'm in good company with @the_sam because I've been leaving that tape on so long it practically becomes part of the wall. The guy at my hardware store probably thinks I'm going for some kind of modern art look with all those jagged paint lines. Guess we're all out here learning basic life skills way later than we should.
