Warning: That $30 garage door tune-up deal nearly cost me $800 in repairs

Saw an ad for a local handyman offering garage door tune-ups for $30 last month. Figured it was a steal so I booked him. He tightened some bolts and sprayed oil on the tracks, looked fine. Two weeks later the spring snapped and the door came crashing down on my car. Had to pay $800 for a real company to replace the springs and fix the bent track. The cheap guy didn't even check the spring tension. Anyone else get burned by one of those too-good-to-be-true service deals?

My uncle Bob tried one of those $30 tune-up deals last summer in Phoenix. The guy showed up in an unmarked van and spent maybe 15 minutes poking around. Three days later the door got stuck halfway open during a monsoon storm and my uncle had to sleep with the door cracked open all night. Ended up costing him almost $600 to get a proper technician out there who found the cables were frayed and the springs were basically ready to snap. Honest truth is those deals are just bait to get someone inside your garage so they can upsell you on junk you dont even need.

Did they at least try to sell you on a whole new opener before they found the real issue? That's what they usually do around here.
