Should I tell my friend about her boyfriend's weird texts or stay out of it?
So last week my friend Sarah showed me a text her boyfriend sent that said "you look so much better without makeup" and she thought it was sweet, but I felt like it was kinda controlling. Three years ago I was in a similar situation where my best friend's boyfriend kept making little comments about her clothes and I stayed quiet because I didn't want drama. Then last month she caught him cheating anyway and told me she wished I had said something sooner. Now I'm stuck again wondering if I should gently ask Sarah if that kind of thing happens a lot, or if I'm just overthinking because of my own past. Has anyone else been in this spot where you had to decide between speaking up or keeping the peace?
Heard that, and honestly it's such a tough spot to be in. That guilt from staying quiet before is real heavy, I've been there too. I think you're not overthinking, that comment about makeup is weird and kinda sets off alarms. With your history, it's smart to trust that gut feeling cause it's usually trying to protect you or your friends. Maybe just ask her casually how things are going, like "hey, does he say stuff like that a lot or was it a one off?" Keep it low pressure but real. You're a good friend for even worrying about this, seriously.
what if her friend actually likes the control though" - @river952 that's such a good point, I had a friend who said the same thing once and it turned out she was just scared to admit she was unhappy.
