Heard my coworker say something about old emails that got me paranoid
Ngl I was just sitting in the break room and heard my boss tell someone she keeps copies of every email people send her, even the ones marked private. She said she has a folder from 2018 where she saved stuff people tried to delete later. That made me remember that letter I typed up to my ex but never actually emailed after I cooled down. Now I'm thinking, what if someone else saved drafts or something? I went back and checked my sent folder today and found 3 emails from 2 years ago I totally forgot existed. Has anyone else ever found old messages they wished they could just make disappear for good?

People don't always think about drafts being saved, but lots of email systems hold onto them automatically. That part about saving deleted emails though that's a bit different. Most companies have backups that keep everything whether you like it or not. Not because someone is watching you, just because IT sets it up that way for data recovery stuff. Even if you hit delete, those old messages might still be floating around on a server somewhere.

Pretty sure at this point my own deleted folder has more secrets than a teenager's diary and I can't even remember what I deleted last week. Boss lady is either a genius at CYA or just really enjoys watching the rest of us sweat for no reason. Long as my old emails don't come back to haunt me during a performance review I call it a win.
