PSA: That letter you wrote to your younger self probably misses the point if you didn't include the hard years too
I kept rewriting a letter to my 16-year-old self for about 8 months and finally sent it last week only to realize I'd left out every bad part because I was too focused on telling him things get better, and that made the whole thing useless like giving someone directions but skipping all the construction zones.

When I did mine, I made two columns - one for the good stuff and one for the garbage years. That way I could see how the hard parts actually shaped who I became instead of pretending they didn't happen. Wrapping it up with the rough stuff made the whole thing feel real and way more helpful.

Huh, @michael_green44, did the negative column ever make you want to scrap the whole thing?

Well a friend of mine did something similar a few years back, listing out all the bad years in one go. She told me it was rough seeing everything laid out like that, especially the part where she lost her job and had to move back in with her parents. But she said getting it all down on paper actually helped her see the bigger picture, which is why I think that two column approach works so well.
