Back and forth on whether to contact my old landscaping crew lead after 4 years

I was down in Tucson last week doing a job near the university and drove past this old coffee shop where me and my old crew lead used to grab breakfast before early shifts. That guy was tough as nails, like he'd yell at you for leaving a rake out but then buy you lunch if you were working hard. I lost touch with him after I left that company to start my own thing, and I keep going back and forth on reaching out. Part of me thinks, man, he was a good mentor and I owe him a lot, so I should just send a message. But then the other part of me remembers how he handled conflict, like he'd hold grudges over dumb stuff and I was the one who quit without really saying goodbye. Did any of you track down an old boss or coworker and have it go well, or did it just stir up old drama? I'm stuck on whether to send that Facebook message or leave it alone.

Held grudges over leaving rakes out? That sounds exhausting. I mean maybe it's just me but I wouldn't bother with that kind of energy again.

Not 'that kind of energy again' - honestly, that phrase hit me. A buddy of mine had a neighbor who left his chain saw out in the rain for three days. He walked over, picked it up, and just dropped it on the guy's porch without saying a word. Then he never spoke to the dude again, just gave him this cold stare every time they crossed paths. @faith_shah88, you're right - holding that kind of grudge over a tool is wild, especially when you could just buy a new one for $50 and move on with your life.

Oh come on, this is way too dramatic. Dropping a chainsaw on someone's porch and then giving them the cold shoulder for life? That's not holding a grudge, that's being a weirdo. It's a chainsaw, not a family heirloom. The neighbor probably didn't even notice it was left out for three days. Your buddy could have just knocked on the door and said "hey, you left this outside" and it would have been over in thirty seconds. Instead he turned it into some weird silent movie scene. I get being annoyed when people don't take care of your stuff, but this is next level. People act like everything is a personal attack when half the time it's just carelessness.
